My 2 Females live in the community tank with no probs what so ever. They live with the Clown loaches, Cories, Tetras, Flying Fox, Plecos and Platies! In my Tank there are lots of plants where they like to rest between!
My sorority right now has 3 Botia straita (loaches) and three ADFs (African Dwarf Frogs). My only issue is that I like to keep salt in my Betta tanks, and I sometimes am concerned that the loaches and frogs won't like it. Also I worry about over feeding the girls and underfeeding the rest of the community.
One good thing about the loaches and frogs though is that I can feed them sinking pellets and the girls can't do much with them. Then I assume that the loaches, frogs, and the girls help clean up.
I would like to put the loaches in the larger community tank with the other loaches, but I haven't taken time to catch them. And I am not sure what to put with the girls and ADFs. I have 8 dwarf S. petrocolas that I think might go there or maybe some of the albino plecs when they get older. Only the pets would spend all their time at the back of the tank hugging the heater.
While I find that Bettas are good neighbors to most fish, they have different requirements than most community fish. So I hesitate to put them in large community tanks. It is such a hassle to catch fish when something goes wrong.
