What Would You Use

Right I have 2 filters sitting here what one should I use?
Fluval fx5
Fluval 350
240 liter tank
Stocking will be
25 xray tetra
2 yoyo loach
1 bn cat
The tank will have sand
2 bog wood pieces
And be heavily planted
Please help will the fx 5 be too much for a 240

Need to get this up and running

Why not try the fx5? If its too powerful, use the 305. You could get a decent amount for selling your fx5 if not needed though.

I always heard in a tank fitering is never enough.But i was checking the specs for that FX5 and it says for tanks up to 1500 lts.Too much power for a 240 lts tank i think.But than again i just read the specs for the filter never actually saw one working.Maybe another user uses an FX5 and can advise you better.

I have a 240 lts tank running on a Fluval 305 and it works fine.

It's the flow that's worrying me i suppose it will calm down after a while.

The Yoyos would probably really enjoy the flow of the FX5, they are a riverine species like many of the Botia genus, which would do better in a group of 6+ to form a natural complex hierachy. I'm not sure what the X-Ray Tetra would make of that flow though, but these fish are found in a wide variety of environments in the wild, including brakish.

/www.innovationlandscaping.com/fx5/nozzle.html . I have the nozzle mod working great on my FX5 in the garage 5-footer, using a 22mm elbow bend picked up from B&Q for less than £2. To ease the flow, you could buy an elbow plus a tube (trying to recall the type, it has self sealing joints) which you then drill holes into to do the spraybar mod and thereby weaken the current.

As a sidenote, that stocking is going to concentrate fish in the lower half of your nice big tank, as much as it will be great to see a big group of X-Rays.

Right after a good sleep I'm going to use the 305
When the tanks set up I'll prob add a eheim to give a good over filtration.
Today is set up day yay!!!!!

I'll just chip in and give my opinion on the filtration. I have a Roma 200 so a bit smaller than yours and I used to run a Fluval 305 on it. In my opinion the 305 alone isn't enough and now I'm using an APS2000EF which is rated at 2000LPH. Whether I'm getting 2000LPH from it is another matter but it's certainly very powerful and the water looks a lot cleaner with this kind of turnover. It's good to have 10x turnover in a planted tank too.

I'm not recommending the APS, I have had a few problems with it. I would recommend something more than the 305 though whether that be your 305 and eheim together or the fx5 alone.

Got a few bits and bobs to sell on flee bay want to keep this project at minamal cost
When they sale I'll buy one what size should I get?

i still dotnt know what filtration im going to do for mine was thinking of 2 fx5s if im honest fluval is the only good filter brand iv used. also used interpet (but they was crap if im honest very noisy )

well as mentioned in other threads im a big fan of the Tetratecs now with two of them doing my tank, certainly worth looking into. very easy to clean out too , did mine this week.
