What Would You Do In My Situation?

Would you rather have two 125gal tanks or a 250/300gal tank?

Hi Tokis-Phoenix :)

I voted for having two tanks. I think I would be too worried about a disease spreading and wiping out the whole thing at once to try the big one. Of course, I have never had that happen with a smaller tank, but it could. :/

Alright, I'm just a worrier! :S

I don't like the idea of the 300G to be stuck to the floor. You'd be screwed if you moved, you might as well have a bult-in.
I obviously voted 2 125G's.

I voted for the two tanks. It provides the scope for different set-up's and keeping fish that aren't compatible in one tank B)

with the fish you were intending to stock the large tank with you might aswell have a couple of smaller tanks.

I voted for the three hundred but I should have asked a question first. Do you own your home? If so then the large permanent tank will probably increase the value. If not then I would go for the 125's. Mainly because you can take it with you if you leave but also because of the ease of maintenance and variety of stocking options, not to mention lower aggression. Good luck Tokis.

Yep i own my home :)

The vast majority of my fish are livebearers, mainly guppys and platys- i have 3 large plecs(one sailfin and one common) plus a chocolate and para plec, these are my largest fish apart from the RTBS...I have a lot of fish like corys and khuli loaches plus large snails(giant ramshorn and apple snails), i can't remember all the fish from the top of my head but thats the jist of things.
In the future i would like to hold of some more rare/unusual plecs and many more shrimp, and if i got the two 125gals i may consider to adopt some more large and peaceful fish, but nothing big planned at the mo for the time being :) .

I would not be able to resist a huge tank :hyper: :hyper:  If they were in my kitchen I think it would be un-coordinated if there were 3 125 gal tanks (HUGE) A tank with spieces or community either would look stunning, but if you had to move (like we did) I admit you would be kinda screwed :/
But buying(making) this tank would be a huge commitment for you. (you already know this) You have to be sure that you are not going to move for ages and think about it.......... I couldent live with my self if I had made this tank and then 10 years later somebody moved in and either kept it (doesn't know about fish puts a few guppies in you know what I mean tank wasted :X :X ) then If you ever tried to sell your house as it is so huge, it might put potentual buyers off because of the costs..............
lot to consider i think....

I'd go for the 3 smaller ones.
Any disease in a huge one would be nightmarish to treat and v. expensive for meds.
You would have extreme problems selling your house with a built in 300 gall tank- it would only increase the appeal of the house for a tiny number of people, unlikely to be ones looking to buy a house like yours in your area when you're selling it.
If you are ill for a while (and in 10 or 15 years, that's not implausible for anyone) it would be difficult to cope.
What if you wanted to breed fish or whatever?
all boring practical stuff, but....

I'd have two tanks, for much the same reason as everyone else, easier less expensive and more options.

You say the 125g tanks would come as a package, does that mean if you got two they would be the same?
If so they wouldn't look mismatched, and as for stocking they're plenty big enough to have most fish and you've got more options with compatability!

Ok....I think im going for the two 125gal option....
I've had a think about it and i think i would have more options with 2 125gal tanks, the 300gal tank thing is very tempting but i want to get the most out of my money and my tanks plus also the easiest to maintain option, i think two 125gal tanks would be the best  .
Thankyou so much everyone for your time, advice and views/comments, you have really helped me here :) .
