since the majority of the fish in my 240 gallon tank are south american cichlids i figured this would be the best spot to ask what else to add to it, because right now it seems a little barren

right now in the tank there are

2x blue acara
4x firemouthes
2x senegal bichirs
1x oscar
4x turquoise severums
1x gold severum

i was thinking about adding in some surinam geos, or juruparis, or maybe some kind of pleco
a school of tetra would look really good, but the oscar/bichirs would eat them
i thought about balas, tinfoils or silver dollars, and i don't really like any of them

i was also wondering if you guys think there might be any problems with a tank setup like this, they've all been in there for awhile now, and really the only aggression that goes on is occasionally the firemouthes nip at the oscar, but thats really only when theres food in the tank (i've got a spare 55g tank if any problems arise)

As you said Geophagus would be the way I would go. I'm thinking of getting 1 type, probably Surinamensis to add to my 115 Gal.

They may lack colour when young but I saw some adults the other day and they looked great, I like the idea of them breeding, they are mouthbrooders, and I think this would be very cool to see.

THIS web site will give you some info on them.

Just for future reference, I know the oscar would eat them, but if you ever got rid of him black tetras make a good addition to a cichlid tank believe it or not. I currently have a school of 8 or 10 of them in my African Cichlid tank and they get along fine. The best way to gauge if theyll fit in with yours though is whether or not anything has a mouth big enough to fit one in :hey:
