What Would U Do With:

Don't get me wrong, I love goldfish, but I know I haven't the space for a 55 gallon so I don't keep them. The OP should consider doing the same. It isn't rocket science to look at large full grown goldfish in ponds and correct sized tanks and see that they are exactly the same as the ones in petshop tanks. Ergo, it is pretty obvious how big they get and if you don't have room for it, don't get it.

I know I come across as overbearing about things, but I don't like to sugarcoat the situation to make it sound ok. Because it isn't OK. Seriously it doesn't take a vast amount of brainpower to figure something like that out.

But well, it's his fish and his own conscience, things will be what they are.

Guys this plonker is only posting to try and wind you up, he has posted loadsa threads like this. Just ignore him, he will soon go away and try and shock someone else!

I think they look great in big tanks but only in big tanks

Indeed, it's grand to see a big healthy fish cruising around the correct sized tank. Personally I'd forget a 55 gal and go with a 75 gal for a pair to give them some extra space. Plenty of Goldfish-safe plants and mossballs ect, some nice bogwood possibly ( I'm thinking for java ferns ) Black gravel ( forgive me but I am a goth I can't help myself!!! ) A pair of Ryukin Goldfish and a few gudgeon for the bottom would look splendid. But alas I don't have the space for such a tank. One day though...one day :D

Many would think of the expense of a larger tank, but with some hard saving and good second hand deals one could get such a good setup for half the cost of a brand new one.

So I have noticed. I've come across them before. They either learn and accept the general gist of what you are telling them, or they get stroppy at the though of actually being wrong and out of sheer spite they do the opposite of what several people advise and fail miserably to the detriment of the fish. Then they give up and mercifully ( for the fish ) forget fishkeeping. It'll swing one way or the other.
