well i have a 70l tank and have just started to stock it

currently i have
2 sailfin pleco's
1 pleco i dont know what it is (green with yellow spots)
4 rainbow fish
5 black phantom tetra's
5 rabaras
3 horsefaced loaches
3 pygmy cories
pair honey guarmi's

the stock is about 3 weeks old

giving some time for the next batch of fish and was looking for some ideas for a pair of larger fish to finish it off

sorry but i have to agree imo you have enough fish as it is
regards scot :)

oh dear... way way over stocked already.

did you cycle the tank?

what is meant by cycle the tank ?

i was really after somthing like a jack dempsey but a little more friendlier (wont eat my other fish)

did toy with the idea of putting oscars in but decided to go with a community instead

nope didnt do a cycle

got the tank and the same day added the fish as the person who i bought the tank off said to do all has been well for 3 weeks

You are joking right? You say you have a 70 litre tank? I suggest that you do some serious research about the size of the fish you have and then tank most of them back to the LFS(local fish shop) or pet store you got them from.

The sailfin plecs alone will each grow large enough not to be able to turn in a 70l tank....

i think that it is lighly stocked at the mo as the tank seems a little barron

would this be because of a oxygen thing ?

filter is a fluval 4 and creates plenty of movement in the water

sounds like you got a filter already cycled then.

However you are still over-stocked. Are you going to rehome some fish? (especially the plecs)

Do you have a liquid test kit?

so you've had the tank for 3 weeks?

In 3 months those plecs will probably be 4 times the size they are now (depending on species)

Tank is over-stocked mate.

No, it is because you have too many too big fish in a 70litre tank.

A sailfin plec needs at minimum a 5ftx2ftx2ft tank, preferably larger.

No ammount of oxygen will make that size tank suitable for the fish you have.

i dont have a liquid test kit yet but the water is checked by a local pet store

i dont see the need to rehome the fish just yet as they are quite small in relation to the tank and takes a while for them to grow to full size so i have been informed

was looking at a flash pleco and blue phantom pleco (i think it is called) as the next addition to the plec collection but am not too sure if it would be wise to have the diferent plecs in 1 tank

my tank is 4ft x 18" x 21" so do i still need to rehome the pleco's

It is not wise to add ANYTHING else to that tank. The sailfin plecs alone will outgrow in about 4 week-2 months. Mine hit 12" within 9 months.

You have been incredibly badly misinformed.

Ok, bigger than 70l, so you have a bit of time. Still wouldn't add anything until you've cycled, and you will have to rehome the sailfins.

when you buy/add fish you need to take into consideration their full size, thus the plecs you have, and the ones you are thinking of, are too big for your tank.
