After my swordtails gave birth, I kept them in a smaller tank, 5 gal, but it has no filter (but the water stays clean, and I maintain it pretty well). I put the biggest of my fry in the main tank, because they finally grew too big to be eaten or to be sucked into the filter.
After the firsr day or so, I realized a problem-feeding. Their size requires small food, and I have been feeding them this powder stuff since they were born, and I can't really get it so the food gets to the fry without polluting the water, and I've tried live food but they get eaten far too quickly by the rest of the tank inhabitants-but they do get enough to eat, just not all they want.
So will good water quality make them grow faster then a lot of food? Which is more important?
Should I just move them back into the fry tank until they're bigger (they're only 3/4 of an inch)?
and dont go saying just to put a filter in the fry tank- its not that simple to do with my restrictions, i can't even have a lid on the fry tank because the heater, as small as it is, blocks it.
