What Types Of Fish Can I Keep.

Ok,

So today the 3 larger tetras and 1 of my zebra danios are mysteriously missing.
Wierd!

I took out the catfish and the pleco and re-arranged the tank a little bit.
My gouramis fins are not looking as bad as the angels were.
No water tests yet but my fishes have now halved in number. Were the other fish eaten?

I will put the gouramis in a quarantine tank if they get any worse but they seem happier today, digging in the bottom. I don't have a container or tank of any kind though. My little tub i took the sucker and catfish back in was borrowed. What do you think?

Also what do you think about dwarf gouramis in a tank my size (see earlier posts)?

If you check this out ...
Dwarf Gouramis
They don't get that big, but they seem to be a 1 or a lot sort of thing. Given their size however, you could definately keep 1 in the tank, though it MAY (Don't quote me on it) be possible to keep 2 females together since they're far less agressive than males.
Watch how yours do, and if things progress okay, it's probably fine.

Another fish update ...
4 neon tetras
2 dwarf gouramis
1 zebra danio

Geez. You should probably take back the tetras and danio at this point. I'm confident that whatever ate them has already been removed from the tank, but tetras should have a bigger tank, and one danio won't be too happy. It'll also give you some room to find out how your gouramis will behave, and allow some time for the tank to settle down. Then you can (After hopefully receiving some more advice from people who know a bit better) figure what, if anything else you can put in that tank.

Also, work on getting a test kit, or just have a test done at the LFS to make sure your water is okay (Just to be safe). :) Good luck.

The mix of fish in and of itself is fine. The problem I see is that tetras and danios are schooling fish, and the number you have of each is much lower than would be recommended, and thus your fish are not going to be as happy. With schooling fish it is usually recommended to have at least 6. And gouramis are a 1 or many fish. I've read try to have twice as many females as males to avoid aggression.

For a tank that size I would recommend a school of a small fish, like a small tetra or rasbora, 1 dwarf gourami, and 2 or 3 small corys to feed off the bottom. And of course you have to keep up with water maintenance. Small tanks are less forgiving with water conditions.

always keep dwarfs 1male:2females :)

males arent overly agressive they just dont like the females getting the food first

Thanks again for all the help,

Really I want to keep the neons and the zebra danio
so if i got a couple more neon tetras and another zebra danio?
Then maybe one or 2 more fish.

Update:

My dwarf gouramis are both male.
Thanks for that link arcticlancer.

If you do REALLY want to keep the tetras and danios, it is strongly suggested that you buy a 20 gallon tank for them. You should be able to keep small schools of them in it, and there's probably room for one of your two gouramis as well. Then you could leave the other gourami in the 10 gallon and get a few small livebearers (guppies or platies are the best choices really) to go with it. Voila, you get the fish you want, and they're all adequately accompanied.

If you still have problems (I guess, financial at this point), let us know.
