I bought 6 of these and they are all completely red. They were sold as cherry shrimp, but after looking at pictures on the internet they seem too red. Is this because they are all female?

Can you show any pictures of your shrimps?

This will help identify if these are simply Red Cherry Shrimps or possibly Fire Reds for example or you may have good grades of RCS perhaps.

Good grades of shrimps tend to be more expensive than standard shrimps, so the price you paid may reflect on what type you have.

And yes, does tend to be females RCS thats show more red than male RCS.

I'm guessing they are the color morph known as sakura cherry shrimp. I have 50 of them and you are right, they are very very red compared to common color morphs.

The photo is consistent with my answer above. Which is good. The one suggestion I have is not to mix them with regular old cherry shrimp as they will breed and could reduce the vibrancy of color in the offspring.

I would even hazard a guess that your shrimp could be painted fire red shrimp, as the grades get higher it can be really hard to tell male from female. If all of your shrimp are the same size and body shape then I would say they are most likely all female.

They all look very similar, so I think I might have all females, which is a shame as I was expecting to have shrimp breeding going on.
