Just bought him from Maidenhead, hes more colorful than the normal green, has a pointy nose and golden fins.

Is it a Heros Efaciatus or Severus or something different again?

Looks like my heros efasciatus did when I got them, however, their colouration has changed alot since then and they have Rotkeil colour now.

What was he sold as?

'Spotted Severum'

There was four tanks, one had golds, another had green/turq like my little one,the other had normal striped and the forth had these guys, the dude said they are rare and the look completley diff to the normal striped Greens.

Infact my step father just bought a normal striped green and put it in my tabk until he goes home and they although both stripy look nothing alike in colour or body shape, they are both about 1"

Mine has a pointy nose and yellow fins, plus a acara like stripe through its eye, wheras his is more grey looking, with spots behind with no stripe through his eye and has the body shape of my gold/red spot and my green/turq :S

I also picked up a rainbow cichlid while i was there

Watch as he grows, as I say he looks like mine did, if he continues to have the turquoise facial markings and you see a red shoulder line appear, then you may find yourself with a rotkeil, they look very much like that, all stripey when they are small.

Just saw your pics and hes identical minus the res so far,so looks promising :)

The black banding will disappear mostly, depending on his mood, when mine are stressed, the banding comes back. Give him a couple of inches growth and you will see what he will turn out as.

Yeh I cant wait :) they grow fast also...my green grew from 1" to nearly 4" in 2 months.

Wish they all only grew to about 5" and i'd have loads of them :p

Somebody on another forum also said what you said Minxy and mentioned about the yellow fins being a tale tale sign of a Rotkiel as standard greens always have red/brown fins!

I'm excited and want the little dude to grow up now!

Hope hes goign to be ok tho,hes the smallest fish in my tank...and i have some monsters in there!

Hes just started to get really blue around the face :)

He hasent once dropped colour yet,not even when stressed/being chased hes got a almost metallic sheen to him which is different :p

Hes eating like crazy also!

hello again glenbo! Elakoon from mfk :D

if your brought him at Maidenhead i can pretty much be certain he is a rotkeil. maidenhead have a reputation for mislabeling or sometimes having fish that arent labeled in the tank. the amount of fish ive got from there as something else is high. looks like your one of the people who can pick out the great maidenhead advantage buys hehe

Why does everyone think that ALL Maidenhead Aquatics are the same? We are a franchise, we have different people who own different shops, different managers to run different shops, we buy different fish from different suppliers and we obviously have different levels of commitment! I love my job and do my best to have things labled up correctly but if the suppliers give me a wrong or misspelled names then im not likely to know any different unless its a common species i know.

I had to rewrite 24 lables one weekend because customers keep stealing them, or taking the labels off the tank to bring to the desk to show what fish they wanted. If there are labels missing or you think they are wrong, just kindly point it out or ask what the fish are! Don't critisize unless you help with the problem, its not easy trying to keep up with the standards you fishkeepers demand ;)

That said...

It could be anything, if suppliers to misname them, the shop might not even know.

I think we deffinately need lots and lots more photos before we can even guess ;)

Already attempted to help mate, I asked the guys in my local one to take down the sign saying Flag Acara that was on the Green Acara tank otherwise people would buy a potential 8" semi aggressive fish as a 2" peaceful dwarf Cichlid,It was met with attitude....and the 3 mongs behind the counter told me that I was wrong...

That being said the shop is the best in terms of quality of fish and quantity of fish in my town....also the easiest shop other than P@H to make a killing. (get expensive fish cheap because anything uncommon is mislabled).

They are still better than most of the other LFS's here (11 of them) ...some focus on Marine only, some not interested, some no stock..

Not that I want to keep this thread off topic but Elakoon is from the midlands and I'm from the South West,so thats 2 diff shops ;)
