Hi,

Can somebody please confirm what type of Plec this is from the below photo link. I've tried looking and the only one i can find that looks similar is the White Spot Plec. Thanks

I wouldn't have a clue what type it is but it looks a stunner

To me, it looks like it could be a Leporacanthicus cf galaxias (L240). Really nice condition fish, and an adult size of around 10".

That certainly looks like the one! Thanks for the help. Unfortunately it will have to be re-homed as I only have a 125litre. Out of curiosity, what would be the recomended tank size?
Cheers

It has the potential for 12-14 inches and is quite a heavy bodied fish so minimal ideally would be 4x18x18 with bigger obviously better.

I think I'd better put it in the classified section if anybody is interested. Thanks

Some plecs do take a while to grow to there full potential mate, some take many years... yours looks quite a young, small fish so i wouldn't worry to much about getting rid that quick.... it will probably be fine in a 125 litre tank for quite some time.

My problem is that i've just purchased the 125L as an upgrade and it came with all the fish in it so i now have all my fish from my previous tank mixed in together. In addition to this plec i also have an Albino bristle-nose and a Clown Plec. I'm trying to condense the list of fish i have down so i'm not so overstocked. Here's what i've got in at the moment:

Black neon tetra x5
Neon tetra x3
Bronze corydoras x5
Pentazona barb x6
Rainbow cichlid x2
Blue gourami x1
Dwarf golden gourami x2
Peppered corydoras x1
Clown loach x2
Clown plec x1
corydoras culli x1
Leporacanthicus cf. Galaxias L240 x1
Butterfly cichlid (blue ram) x1
Albino bristlenose plec x1

I see your point, getting rid would probably be a good idea then lol.... the load alone form the plecs would be quite severe without any of the other fish.

Thanks for all your help!!! Thankfully i've kept my previous internal filter from my old tank which i've added inside the 125 in addition to the external filter it came with. This should be able to cope until i re-home some fish. How much would one of these plecs normally go for at a LFS? Thanks

Area to area can differ quite dramatically, as well as shop to shop...but at about 3-4 inch i would expect to pay at least £30-£40 around my area.

wow that much?? I'll try and re-home him through the classified section on this site. At least i would know it would be going to a good home. Thanks again

In it's own right, it's quite a sort after plec, they aren't rare by any stretch and they require relatively big tank but they are sunning fish none the less.
