I was thinking about getting another type of livebearer in my community tank. What are your suggestions? I have white mollies and two highfin platies. I was hoping to add some more color. Do you have any ideas? Pictures would help
Thanks in advance....

Yeah, I have seen some beautiful colors in guppies. Do you knowif they have the same needs as mollies?

Guppies and endlers are both very comfortable with the real needs of mollies. If you have fallen for the idea that mollies need salt then you can forget both guppies and endlers in that tank. The real needs of mollies is hard water with a pH of well over 7.0. They also appreciate a diet high in vegetable matter. I keep mine at 7.8 pH and they prosper and reproduce like crazy. I even sold some today at a good price at a fish club auction although they were only 2 months old. Mollies kept properly are tough little fish that are a joy to watch. They exhibit lots of personality and will try to interact with you when you come near the tank. That was the way that I caught the fish so easily to take them to auction.

well you can't keep guppies and mollies together. Mollies need salt, guppies don't. In my opinion mollies are hardier than guppies although guppies make up for this with their amazing colours.

Mollies are best kept in hard water they may prefer a bit of salt but don’t need it I keep mine in a ph of 7.6 and have no problem keeping them without salt .

My mollies are kept in hard fresh water with a pH of 7.8. I never add salt to their tank because they don't need it and the cories would definitely not appreciate it. The end result is these terribly unhealthy looking specimens Jackyb07s4. As you can easily tell from the picture they are also voracious fry eaters.

I guess I will stick with mollies for now thanks everyone!

Were you at the East Peoria Auction? If so, I probably saw you there! I don't remeber seeing any mollies though.

Yes I was. I sold off a bag of 7 of those guys in the picture. They were small and I didn't bring many because I didn't expect them to sell as well as they did. My adult goodeids went cheaper on a per fish basis.

I saw a lot of good deals at the auction, as I do at most auctions. I think it's time to stop hijacking this thread though.
