What type of fish is this?

Anyone have any idea what kind of fish that is with the stripe? There are 2 in the tank that a member of my family ended up with. The tank with fish was given to her. There's an angelfish. The person she got it from never cleaned it or took care of it. She wanted to know the type of fish this is.

It looks like Pristella maxillaris.
Also known as Pristella tetra or Xray tetra.

what's the volume of the tank? small schooling fish like this will be "happier" if kept with more of their own or similar species

Agree on Pristella maxillaris, and agree there must be a group, 9-10 minimum if the tank is suitably sized. Some floating plants will heighten their colours. If you don't want/like this fish, return it...on its own it will be severely stressed.
