Hi all, I have about 6 of these fish (striped one) in my tank and would like to add some more. However, I don’t remember what kind they are. Thanks.

I cannot see a striped fish. The upper fish is a female Black Phantom Tetra, Hyphessobrycon magalopterus, and the lower fish is one of the Hyphessobrycon tetra species but it is partially out of the picture and I can't tell which species.

Thank you, that’s it the phantom

OK. They are better in larger groups so getting more as you intend is good. This one is a female, which you can easily tell from the red adipose fin and red ventral fins. Males have all black fins, and can be overall darker though in a fish store tank they will be stressed and this is not so noticeable. But the red or black adipose and ventral fins will be obvious. A mix of roughly 50/50 is good. The more there are, the more the males will display in pairs, and with this species that is worth seeing. I would suggest 10-12 in total.

Hello and welcome to the forum, I have several different tetras in my 55 gallon tank. I try to have 12-15 of each for their shoal. I have thought about getting black phantom tetras for my new 30 gallon tank I am working on. They are a nice looking fish. Are yours out and about or do they hide most of the time. I prefer fish that are active. :fish:

Black Phantom tetras spend most of their time out in the open and only hide in plants if they are stressed or the water quality is poor.

In my opinion, they are one of the nicest tetras to keep. They are peaceful, rarely have health issues, and are a delight to watch.

You can also get red phantom tetras but I think the blacks are nicer looking.

Thanks @Colin_T I am working on a planted sunken forest themed tank (30 gallon tall) with fine 3mm gravel and a sponge filter. I was thinking of having two shoals of small fish
