Currently have Oz sharing his 60 litre with 3 tetras. They get on very well so I plan to boost the shoal size of the tetras and get something else.

What have you lovely people successfully kept with bettas? Mine is very passive and gentle so I'm willing to try out a community with him. If that doesn't work, I'll pop a partition in the tank or move him to the quarantine (his old tank).

I'd quite like to have something that lives on the bottom but I'm not too keen on corys. Maybe a small plec? Catfish? Anything like that that doesn't grow massive? I'm also planning to get some shrimp =) what would you suggest? I'd like something that munches in algea and keeps the tank clean. The local lfs is selling them for £5. Too much?

couple of pitbull plecs they are really good algae eaters and only stay small - approx 2"
javanese rice fish are great aswell

I'd recommend amano shrimp, they are a decent size so less likely to become food. I got some for my betta tank and they are great, just eating machines, really interesting to watch too. Mine were £3 each at my lfs.

Please please please be careful with your tetras

It's not your betta that will attack them, they will attack him ripping his tail to shreds, be very very careful with them as things can turn bad at a moments notice.

Best of luck

EDIT: I wouldnt have otos in a 60litre purely because they need swimming room and large shoals of minimum 6 and preferably 8-10, they are also notoriousely hard to keep.

Ottos spend most of there day searching for food on the glass on plants and ornaments 60L aquarium would be plenty enough for 6 otto's and a betta as it is 16 US Gallons. they do only eat a certain type of algae and there diet will need supplimenting with algae Wafer and certain types of Veg, peas and cucumber are there fav, they also require good water conditions.

They are happy at the moment. No nipping at the betta (I think he intimidates them).

Boosted the shoal size to 7 and keeping careful watch on them. They've stopped nipping each other and my old tetras are getting some good fin regrowth.

Also got a shrimp (no idea what kind - it's transparent and colourless) who is my little cleaning soldier and 4 corys. All happy and all under my watchful eyes.
