I have a 29 gallon tank that I can’t figure out what to stock with. I have a 75 gallon South American cichlids tank, so I’d rather not do cichlids again (even African ones). My water parameters (from tap) is:

GH: 160 ppm (9 dph I believe)
KH: 0 ppm
PH: 7 (but can be changed)

I would rather have fish that around 3-4 inches compared to 1-2 inch tetras and such. Otherwise I’d like to hear creative ideas people have.

Assuming the 29g is the basic tank with 30 inches length and 12 inches width, you best option will be the smaller fish. I have a tank this size and it has nano fish, pygmy cories, ember tetras, pencilfish, green neons. You could do slightly larger tetras, or medium rasboras. Cories. Gourami depending upon species and with less active tankmates could work.

Fish 3-4 inches will be too large for this tank (if I have the dimensions correct), other than "centerpiece" like gourami. Shoaling fish this length need more space for swimming.

If you could lower your ph a little which in that kind of water should be quite easy with some nice botanicals. You could do a cool south east asian biotope like this

If your water was soft enough and ph low enough some of the licourice gourami would look amazing in this kind of set up. Some kind of emerald eye rasbora with the metalic glint in dark water looks really nice - not sure how soft they can go though?
