ok so last week i moved all my fish in the nice 5ft tank.

now i have a 30 gal tank siting there empty.

i was wondering if i can put african cichlids in there. i really do like africans they have grown on me.

i was thinking yellow labs?

thanks Jon

A single species of Tanganyikan shell dwellers, with a group of small, hard water loving dithers?

A bit small for Malawi cichlids including Yellow Labs long term by all accounts, 4-foot tanks are considered the good starting point for these.

ok where could i buy the Tanganyikan shell dwellers as my lfs dont do them?
how meny could i put in the 30 gal.

could i put the yellow labs with the stocking in my sig?

thanks

oh forgot to add. the guppys and platys are only in there as ive just set a new tank up for them. thanks

Shellies are great fun. Wherabouts are you? I found that after looking for shellies for ages and nowhere having any stock of them, I finally found some brevis, then straight after 3 different shops all got shellies in stock!

What size the tank in your sig? Yellow labs would be a bit too big for a 30 gallon and wouldn't mix well with your peaceful community fish as the labs are territiorial and can be aggressive. Also the water prefernces are different, as the labs like high pH and hard water. For a 30 gallon tank you could go with Shellies, as mentioned before ( you could ask your LFS if they could get them in, or try online ). A pair if Brichardi could work as well, they would have some room to breed in turn filling out your tank a bit.

hi my tank is 5' 2' 2'. are they even agressive for the Honduran Red Points...

i could move the keyholes into the 30 gal.

what you think though?

Well typically african and new world cichlids are not mixed, but I'm sure there are setups that are working fine with both in together. If you do decide to get some yellow labs, I would go with 6-7 and if you can get something like 2 males and 5 females. Have lots of rocks and caves in their tank as well. Keyholes and HRP may be ok in there, it would sort of me a wait and see type thing. BUT I can say for sure the breeding aggression will be overtake your tank. I assume with 5 HRP you must have a pair there some where so when they breed and when the yellow labs breed there will be some serious aggression.

no all my hrps are female.

im looking to order 4 yellows 1 male to 3 females?

If you decide to mix them, the numbers and tank size would be fine. Just remember to have lots of rock work/caves.

yeah i will. the yellow labs will only be around 2cm big
