Hi Folks,

I have a 105l (approx 25uk gal) tank with 4 Kissing Gourami in it. 3 of these are young fish (3-5 cm) the other is older (came with tank) and is 12-15cm. They get along well and are friendly happy fish.

What I would like is to add some colourful fish. I know space wise this would only be a maximum of 2 or 3 fish.

So what would you suggest? I would like something that will not grow huge (as the Gouramis may do this anyway) but that will be big enough not to be seen as dinner!

Getting a larger tank is an option in the future but not right away (not needed while fish are still small anyway)

Suggestions please for something brightly coloured or unusual please.

Thanks!

Remove two of your gouramis. This will allow you to get six larger shoaling fish because of space. With four gouramis, you would have space for only a couple.
A shoal of 4-8 of these will be good; larger fish need smaller shoals and so on.
Rainbowfish. Any of the 8-12cm sp. will go well. Most shops just stock Reds, Bosemanis and Neon Blues, but shop around to look for brighter sp. They are stunning as adults, dont let the juvaniles put you off.
Barbs. Melon or Aurilis get to 12cm and look very regal as adults.
Congo tetras. Very attractive as adults at 8cm. However, some people feel that they are best suited to larger tanks than yours.

Have a look on the Fish Species Index for others.

What about some larger tetra species? There is a lot of variety around! I keep my gouramis with serpae tetras.... I think your tank is large enough to have a school of 6-7 tetras. Or what about glowlight danios? Beautiful fish which grow up to 4 cm. You would have to try to find some adult ones though!
