Im going to be getting a 29gal soon and i have no idea what i should put in it! I have lots of ideas and stuf but im wondering what other would put in a 29gal.

I like a lot of bottom fish and catfish but cant fill the whole thing up with them. I would like to do a few different schooling fish but not sure which ones. Go with tetras or barbs?

Any input is great!

personally, i think a base of one schooling species, ie a medium size tetra or maybe harlequin rasboras should be in every md. size tank. Then you can add some species that do well as individuals or pairs, gouramis, sharks etc. And ofcourse the janitorial crew to round it out.
I get a lot of compliments on the assortment in my 36 (see sig) Various size, shape, color and area they occupy in the tank.
I have my eye on another 36 corner bow for the basement once that tax return comes in. Stocking is the best part of fish keeping. ENJOY.

I just got a 29 gal bowfront! I've got 3 julii corydora's and 11 pristella tetras I'm putting in there. Thats my favorite combo  I may add either more juliis or like 4 otocinclus later on. Hmmmmm maybe kulhi loaches.... :D

I agree with the tetra idea. Everybody has neons though, myself included. Why not go for something different? Rummynose, or head and tail light, they're pretty nice. Though from what I've been told penguins don't school that well, but another option is harlequin rasboras. They cling together so tightly you'd think their lives were in danger!

Unless you decide to go with a species tank, I would decide on a 'feature fish' first and build your community around it/them. Have a look at my 33l (in my sig) for some more ideas. I decided on the Cockatoos first and went from there. In my case I decided to stick to fish from the Amazon basin. Keep your tap water parameters in mind and get fish that will be happy without having to mess with it. That sometimes helps narrow things down for you.

Angelfish or Exodos (sp?) Tetras. If you go with Angels, build your tank around them.
Exodos = Species tank. And what about Wimple Piranhas? I think they can be kept in 29gs?

I say go for some harlequin rasboras! I got some the other day and they are so much fun and great schoolers. Beautiful fishes.

Hmm im liking the tetra idea. I was thinking about three schools of about 5 tetras each? Some cories and maybe a couple bigger type fish to fill it up in the end! How Would that be just the right abount of fish for a 29?

I'd go for a school of 8 harlequin rasboras OR black phantom tetras, a pair of pearl gouramies, a bristlenose plec and either 3 khulie loaches or 6 corydoras catfish of your choice. You could probably do some re-arranging and get 2 kinds of tetras but I personaly think a bigger school of one species is better. Otos could help with keeping algae under control instead of a small plec and some more re-arranging and you could either have more cories or both cories and khulies... Just my opinion (and I would NOT trade the pearl gouramies to anything else :p).

Hey Wolfdog, Im in the same situation as you, with a 30 gallon tank to fill.

You thought about something for the bottom? Like an african dwarf frog?

I was thinking about having maybe 3 of them (if you can get them in the UK) A couple of very colourful angelfish, a school of about 10 neons
I dont know what else I want though.

Yeah ive always seen those frogs at the pet store. Always wondered what the scoop was on them. They look like they'd be fun to have.

I know i for sure want to have a small school of cories. Ive never had them before but want them very badly!

I guess ill go with 1 or 2 bigger schools of tetras and maybe a pair or guarmies...
Im so excited to get this new tank goin!
