Hello, I have a male betta, Ive had him a few days and he was originally placed in my community tank with guppies and some neons that were bough same time as him... I have since had to set up his own tank as he went after a neon :( But I have notcied he doesnt really seem to be eating the flake food. The fish in the main tank LOVE it but he doesnt seem to like it
What else can I try? Is there anything around the house he would eat? I have read on a few sites that they like meat, so maybe a piece of chicken? Or small piece of cat meat? I read somewhere that they like vegetables and one person said theres liked banana!
What has everyone tried with there bettas and what could I try with him that wouldnt be harmful?
I am still putting in a sprinkle of flakes every day to see what he does - he watches it floating and chases bits that sink the most he does is bite it then spit it back out!
Thanks.

so long as he doesnt start acting funny id assume he's alright but i feed mine flakes catfish pellets and algae wafers all crushed together into a powder makes it easier on his little mouth! so maybe try crushing the food for him you cpuld do worse :good:

Thanks, I just tried ordering some blood worms and my card expired 6 months ago and they didnt bother sending me a new one!!! Grrr!

My Betta's wont touch the Hikari stuff, all they will eat is the Attisons Betta Pro and live foods lol

I can give you a small sample of the attisons betta pro pellets if you would like some to try him on. Blood worms are easy to get at the LFS

Try granules rather than flake food, mine don't like flake either they can't quite figure out what it is supposed to be. If you don't have live food then try the granulated type that floats. :good:

Green veggies keeps them going to the toilet.
Frozen daphnia good for digesting a fish food.

My boys like the Hikari pellets. Their little mouths aren't made to eat flakes very well.

Pick a pellet food (or whatever you choose) and stick to it. They can go quite a few days without eating and will usually give in and eat. Oscar didn't like the pellets at first, I offered him 2 pellets for about 5 min. and took it out so it wouldn't dirty the water. After a couple of days he ate it and spat it out, the next day he kept it down. Felix took to it right away and now they both beg for their food.

The big trick is consistancy with whatever you choose, but I wouldn't be to worried about him starving himself.
