How's it goin' guys? I recently got rid of my two tiger oscars, because they out grew my 75g tank. For awhile though when they were smaller I set up a 6 gallon eclipse tank for a quarintine and hospital tank. Now that they are gone I am in the midst of stocking my 75g tank with Lake Malawi Cichlids.

My question was though, now that I have this 6 gallon tank laying around, what should I put in it?! I was thinking of trying live pants. But I don't know what kind of fish to put in it, being a smaller sized tank. I was thinking maybe a few neons or so? What do you guys think?

Neons would look great or some other small type of tetra. :)

Neons prefer to be in a shoal of ATLEAST 5. If you plan on planting it up really nicely, this take even more space away from the neons. The neons will also appreciate a mature tank of about 6 months or so. If you're looking for a fish that shoal together all the time, then neons aren't that kind of fish. Once they feel safe in their surroundings they'll pretty much venture out on their own, until they get spooked and will shoal tightly again.

Are you interested in a single male betta? I think it would look lovely with a crowntail betta, heavily planted with maybe some ghost shrimp or pygmy cories. I know the betta may eat the shrimp, but they are cheap and a good addition to their diet. Plus they look cool while they're around.

You don't wanna keep that 6gal still for a hospital tank?

Tetra are always a fun addition to a small tank - dwarf gouramis don't get too big, either (2.5 inches if I'm not mistaken). Maybe plant the tank a ton, and have a gourami and maybe a small school (3-5) of 1 or 1.5 inch tetra? I don't know if they sell them where you are but the various types of von rio tetra are pretty slick.

I wouldnt put a gourami in. Maybe a dwarf, but they are difficlt to keep.

I love small tanks planted out, but i think neons are nbo good in such small numbers. Harliquin rasboras are hardy, last longer then neons, are colourful, and a schoal 0f 6-8 would be fine.

They keep thousands of ghost shrimp here packed into a 10 gallon. They are used as feeders. :p
