I am aquarium shopping on Friday for Seb, my rainbow shark. I just need some advice from people with an idea of what to do! I'm looking for more a lengthy tank for him than anything, the only ones i can see are clearseal tanks, should i get one of these and have no lid, buy a filter and some lights or should i go for the old usual aquarium. I really have got limited funds but i do want to do my best to get something together that he can enjoy and which also looks good. My other tanks have lids so one without would be different and the lighting would look pretty different too. I don't know which would cost more really. Please could you let me know what you would do :( x

Maybe for the lid you could buy a piece of glass or acrylic or plastic from your local hardware store. Or saran-wrap can work to. But then you'd need to keep you light about a foot or so away from that, so it doesn't melt. My sister has used it before on breeding tanks. It works great and it's a cheap lid setup. :good:

woo woo woo.....have you looked on ebay / adtrader / in your local newspapers etc?
i found my 5ft / 2ft / 2ft tank on adtrader for £120.00 it came with filter/heater/loads of plastic plants/pumps n bubble bars/lights n light switch units and chemicals food,glass sliders,lid etc....

bargains are to be had second hand when people give up the hobby for 1 reason or another

thank you both for your input :) You're lovely. x

Funny you say that, i have just looked in my local paper that was put through my letterbox today and theres a very appealing tank in there for sale at a great price! Will let you know how i get on! fingers crossed it won't be gone!

You're very kind, thank you. Just gonna ring the number now!

Damn it, no answer, had to leave a message :/ x

Still nothing, looks like i may have to part with some money after all.

What shall i get a tank with no lid where i have to buy filter and lights or an aquarium with everything. The latter sounds more sensible i just don't want to get in to anymore debt.

Oh me oh my, when can i chill out :/

keep trying number.....seriously look around....go on www.adtrader.co.uk.......ebay.co.uk

wouldnt really go for that tank...search around at fish shop for bargains always find them...
shame you didnt like nearer have a 3ft tank collecting rain at the mo....

back to u....look look look :good:

Thankyou for the advice, just been on that site and alas nothing but was worth a try. I will have a browse round the shops tomorrow. You think i should go for a tank ready to go then? x

yes for example my lfs southern aquatics do offers like a 3ft fish tank with hood lights/heater/filter for around £100

prob if you go with clearseal your looking at this price for only a tank..then youve got to get a hood...£40 ish/light unit around £20/heater £10 up
filter£40 up....so on

would keep looking for second hand

Just get a condenstaion lid...at my LFS theyre £3 for a 3ft one..its jsut like a plastic glass lid basically..if you know what i mean
