AquaOne 380. 34 ltr (approx 7.5 UK gallons) Overhead trickle filter which is amazingly effective. Sand substrate. (Picture in signiture)

Has been used as a grow out tank for fry but is currently housing endlers and a flying fox to keep the filter 'alive' These will be removed

One thing to be taken into consideration is that the water flow is fairly strong as with most small tanks.

So, what are my options, ie. species, quantities, enviromental requirements etc.

I guess a Betta will be the obvious suggestion but not MY first choice and what about the current?

Ps, I already have a 155ltr community tank so I dont need any more community fish

Over to you peeeps :shifty:

So you'd like a species tank of some kind?

Open to anything............I'm not too hot on the creative which is why I'm askin for suggestions. I got the tank to house guppy fry then the fry started to produce more fry so the lot went to the LFS. I put in the endlers and flying fox just to feed the filter.

Wadda you have in mind?

Mmmm I think if it was my spare 7 gallon I would use it for something bizarre, like terrapins!!

Or a couple of dwarf puffer?

Or a shoal of something small and pretty, quite heavily planted, like glow light tetra or cardinals?

I do really well with my congo tetra, they are very peaceful but a good size. I have 2 males and 3 females. The males are very pretty, full of colour and long fins. The females are also very pretty, not quite as deep in colour but ever so shimmery. They've been with me for ages and get on lovely together.

Dwarf puffers are an interesting option. Kept terrapins as a kid in my bedroom, I have memories of a really bad smell from them

A betta fish will be fine in the tank, or some shrimps will be ok also.

I can't see why people are offering Betta's as a suggestion. They need to read some books. Betta's do not like high flowrates.
Lampeyes or Procatopus sp.

I think the lampeyes (do you mean the killifish ones with bright blue eyes) would be an excellent choice, a big shoal amongst a lovely planted tank would offer the same wonderful sight as say the cardinals or glow lights I suggested - I think this would be so pretty.

Yeah the most common ones in LFS are Aplocheilichthys normanni.
but dont dismiss
Procatopus sp for a bit more colour. Abit more difficult to source but well worth the effort. They too like to be in a fast moving stream.
But admittedly the dwarf puffer (providing all criteria for it's husbandry can be met) would have a little more character.

Thank you for that.....I mentioned the flow as I heard somewhere that Bettas prefer stiller water hence, not my prefered option :good:

Would you care to elaborate please?

If you can source some captive bred Galaxy Rasboras they'd make a lovely shoal in that size tank :) (Please choose captive bred!)

I am more versed in Killifish matters that puffers but I do read quite a few articles on verious aspects on various aspects and species. and know that it's not all plain sailing when keeping these interesting fish.
below is a link which provides a few pointers to look out for when keeping these.

Also ask around the forum for personal experiences in their husbandry.
