Ok so I spent the night at my friends house last night and I came back pretty late tonight and went in to feed my fish because I wasnt around to do it earlier and when I turned on the light over my male CT's tank and he flipped out and swam full speed all around the tank hitting the sides enough to make a loud BUMP BUMP noise and when i looked in again he was laying on the bottum, still upright, and his body was bent almost, I was thinking he mustve broken his back and now he's gonna die, then he just was breathing really heavily and after a minute or 2 he was fine and just went up to get food. What the heck is up with that? he's never done anything like that before.

Yikes! At least he is okay now. My Rio used to do that kind of stuff, doing water changes was torture. But he got used to me and now will jump up out of the water and take pellets from my hand!

Sounds like he was resting, they kind of go into a hypnotic state thing, Rio does that too - I am left frequently wondering if he is dead.

They have no eyelids so a burst of light when they are resting must freak them out. Maybe next time, turn the room lights on first, wait a bit and then do the tank lights. Ideally, try not to wake them up late. ;)

he must have been startled when you turned on the light after having it off for the day. most finiky fish will ramm into the walls and sometimes they hit there head and almost get a concusion and have to take some time to recover.

He got scared when the light came on, freaked out, tried to (quoting Finding Nemo here) "swim away", rammed himself into the tank, freaked himself out even more, then had to lie there in pain from the hits and his eyes needed to adjust to the light. Because he couldn't see where he was going (BRIGHT LIGHT BRIGT LIGHT  ), he slammed himself into the sides of the tank. Next time, just wait until morning if it is late. Or, like mentioned above, turn on the lights in the room, walk around a bit to see if he stirs, and then feed him. If he doesn't stir, he can wait until first thing in the morning. Skipping a feeding on extremely rare occasions won't hurt him.

Yea I knew it wouldnt hurt him to not feed him but I had to starve my female for 2 days since she's constipated and i figured it might hurt her not to feed her but she still didnt eat anyways so It looks like I need to get some peas. I havent checked him since I wrote this e-mail so I hope he's ok.
