Hi all,

I recently got rid of one of my Platys (she was sick) but since then I have noticed something strange in my tank. Not sure if it is related but I've noticed a couple of small clumps of what can only be described as slime attached to my filter. It is clear in colour but looks to contain tiny white spots. Its a bit like miniature frog spawn. I only have Platys, Endlers and Corys in my tank.

Any ideas what it could be?

Many thanks in advance.

It could be the corys, as the other fish are livebearers.
Do you have any snails in the tank?

No snails I can see at the moment.

Could it be Cory eggs?

hi Le Sorcier
do you have bronze corys or albino because they lay eggs ontop of eggs like frog spawn :good:

Hi drewry,

I have 3 Trilineatus Corys.

The stuff I can only describe as looking like a small piece of "snotty saliva" containing tiny white dots. And they are very tiny dots.

Thanks

it sounds like snail eggs as cory eggs dont have a mukus round them you may not of bought any snails but if uv got some new plants recently they may ov hitched a ride

Haven't had any new plants for about 2 months so I doubt its snails. Could it be some form of parasite?

I would scoop it all out with a net to be on the safe side.

Sounds like snail eggs (in my short experience).

I got some plants from P@H and after about 2 weeks, I had 2 to 5 tiny snails pottering about.

I didn't think much of it at first, as I thought they were kind of cute (they were about 1mm across). But they grow fast as hell, and as they are hermaphrodites, they can reproduce on their own - which they do, at an alarming rate.

Within another 2 weeks, I could count 50 or so.

I now 'pluck' them out by hand, every time I feed my fish (I just get the ones that are near the top) and the population is now less than 10, although I don't think I'll ever get shut properly.

They always seem to lay their eggs on one particular type of plant (which I assume is the plant they arrived on) or strangely, all around my filter.

Tony.

Thanks Tony,

maybe that is it? I have recently bought a plant (since I started this post), and have noticed a small snail. But now I won't know if it was a hatched egg or a hitcher on the plant?

yeah sounds like snails eggs. I find that when I give my gravel a good hoover I discover small snails hiding, so you may not have noticed the snails.

Couldn't help but laugh - how do you know they were 'hiding' ?!
