hi guys

just started my fishless cycle today, im going to keep tropical fish. have added ammonia so the test kit shows 4/5ppm, which worked out t be 2ml of ammonia for my tank)

i have a heater in which is set to lowest setting of 20C (which is not on at the moment due to the thermostat)

my temperature strip on the outside of the tank shows temp to be 25/26C

is this ok?

also i have 2 filters in my Rena 60L tank (long story!) to cut it short, i have a Rena iv2 filter but the suction cups were not sucking and so it wouldn't stick to the tank so i ended up buying a cheap filter from ebay which looks ok but no where as good quality as the Rena. so i ended up finding one suction cup that i found today and have "cut" it to shape! so it now works. So i have left both filters in for the time being, 2 filters cant be bad can it? (should i put them side by side? or opposite each other?)

Thanks.

Unless you intend to keep the two filters in, I would take one out, as if you do this after the fishless cycle you reduce your bacteria by half.

Both together or either end is fine if you do decide to keep them.

Temp for fishless cycle should be 80+ up to 90 I think some people have done it with, Ive always done mine of about 82. The strips on the outside of tanks arent particularly accurate, get a cheap stick on the inside glasss one, much better.

I agree, get an inside thermometer and work the water up to 29C/84F and don't leave the second filter in unless you intend to use it on a permanent basis.

thanks guys. Thing is until I find the proper suction pads for the rena filter I
Not 100% happy to have it working on it's own. So I may just keep both filters In permantly. Oh and il grab an internal thermometer asap.

Looking forward to getting this cycle going!
