I bought three oscars today. For now they are all by themselves as i have read a lot about them.. and so far everyone is telling me that they shouldnt be mixed with other fish.

Do u guys have oscars? Do u have any other fish in the same tank with the oscars??

:)

if you go to New World Cichlids and do a search for oscars, i think all the questions you could ever imagine would get answered.

we've got no few oscar lovers floating around here...

The tankmates you can have for oscars is entirely dependent on the size of the tank.
In a 55 gallon which is the absolute minimum for a single oscar i would recomend no tankmates as a oscar will claim the entire tank as its territory, there is also water quallity issues.

In a 75 gallon tank you could have a oscar with a large plec or other bottom dwelling species over 4 inches. This is also the minimum recomended tank size for two oscars and no tankmates.

In tanks larger than this you can keep oscars with any non Cichlid fish over 4 inches and some non aggressive large Cichlids like severums and earth eaters.

For 3 oscars you will need a minimum of a 125 gallon tank.

Pacu and Convicts currently... have kept Jack Dempsey, Green Terror, Texas Cichlid, Clown Knives, etc. All successfully.

One of the tricks with Oscars is they grow very fast compared to similar fish so they will often outgrow tank mates. Since they school so well when juvinals they will team up to prevent the 'pack' from being picked on oby other fish.

I've got my single Oscar with a few tinfoil barbs.

I went to my LFS today, they didnt have any tinfoil barbs.. will try somewhere else tomorrow.. I added two firemouths and all seems good so far.. :)
