please some one let me know the steps in making a planted tank like what substrate and so on

your best bet and the best advice i can give is read loads of jornals and learn loads before you start going down the plant road .

Hi Jonas,

I just finished converting to a mostly live planted tank, and after doing the research, the biggest obstacle I came across was the size (wattage) limitation on my light source! So I would read up on light requirements (watts per gallon, light types, K rating, PAR) first, since that will largely determine which plant types will grow well in your tank.

There's a good start here:

The Planted Tank Resource Center

And then do more research too to make sure that light articles are indeed detailing the latest thinking ) Technology does move on and so does research into it.

Light can be THE killer for a first timer. I may try and 'update' the light article at some point if allowed ;)

That would be awesome if you could be allowed to update it! I found some other sources that seemed more up to date...

thanks i will do that i have a double light over the tank it is a 29g tank , i have the co2 enhancer the substrate, initial sticks and some vitamins to put i have to driftwood to put on the corners and 1 mother plant anubis, and the rest baby tears with amazon swords

what is the wattage of the lights? what do you mean by c02 enhancer?

its pretty much yeast, sugar, water and you put it in a bottle and let the co2 bubbles go in your tank makes your plants grow alot faster and healthier, the watt are 2 20 watt bulbs

the advice i would give is, to use a liquid carbon source (easycarbo/flourish excel) rather than diy c02. DIY c02 is very unstable and in itself can result in algae as algae thrives on unstable c02. You really don't need pressurised c02 with your lighting.
