mod edit-whoops, sorry, pressed the wrong button. nothing to see here, move along.

Very quickly, I'd say about 60-70. But thats going by inch of fish per gallon, and my maths isn't nessecarily up to scratch.

you might want to check that a 1:4 ratio is good for rams... everything i've read has indicated that they should be kept in pairs, not harems.

With the exception of the Ram thing which you are addressing elsewhere (New World Cichlid Forum) I would say you have a pretty nice concept going. I would suggest 75 Gal and with that you could even make your shoals a little larger. A lot of times (like now) you have to consider where the fish hang out and see to it you don't over populate a certain area of the aquarium. For what you described stocked in a 75Gal the bottom will be stocked heavy (but not too heavy) where your middle and upper regions will be light.

Also, I mentally edited your list to include 2 pairs of Rams and one Male Apisto. When you set this up it might be a good idea to run your filter intake(s) very close to the bottom of the aquarium.

PS - Sounds like a beautiful set up.

Glad to see I'm not the only one liking the school thing!

Sounds like a really great setup. Just my personal opinion....you could get away with a 55 gallon if you have good filtration and believe in changing your water at least weekly. :)

800 gallons
???????

Raven, can i ask where you got this figure from?? -_- 800 gallons is huge!!

The fish on OTP's wish list could probably fit in your 55 give or take one or two.

Hi One_Trick_Pony :)

As a general rule of thumb when buying a new tank, it's always a good idea to get one twice (at least) as big as you think you are going to need. It's almost a sure thing that as soon as you get a tank set up with the fish you are planning, you will see another that the lfs hasn't had before, and you must get it. Then there will be another........and another! :hyper:

If you get one just the right size in the beginning, you will soon succumb to MTS, like many of us here!

I'd say you need a surface area of approx 600sq inches

A tank that had a surface area like 3'0" x 15" would be minimum with good circulation
