Hi,
I'm thinking of taking my male guppies out of the community tank to allow room for 2 shoals of 10 of 2 different sorts of tetras (in my 125 litre Fluval).

Can I keep 7 male guppies in an Aqua 40 (approx. 28 - 32 litre, opinions seem to vary, says 40 litres on box!)? They don't fight at the moment at all, no fin nipping or anything. I wouldn't put anything else in, apart from live plants and I have two filters and an air pump if necessary.

Thanks for advice.

I would think it would be alright as long as they are all males, you cycle your tank well, and you add them gradually.

it'll be fine, as long as u add ike 3 then another 4 gradual increase

Thanks. I have the filter running in another tank with mature media ready to use. I always do weekly water changes of at least 20% and vac the gravel. I only feed a little 6 out of 7 days too.

No problem to add the guppies a few at a time, just didn't want them to be miserable in the tank, if it is too small for them. Don't intend to buy females and breed, just like the idea of a tank with guppys only plus it frees up space in my 125 litre for a tetra tank.

no it ent 2 small for them, you could get another fish- bottom feeder-cory would be nice

Maybe a small group of pygmy cories, I understand they like to live in groups of at least 4?
Would that be too much?

You will be pushing overstocking if you add 4 cories to 7 guppies in an 8 gallon tank. Even the 7 guppies would be high but could be maintained with proper care. Adding the cories will go past easily maintained into dangerous territory.

I think it's more like 6 UK gallons actually, according to an online conversion site.

That's fine, I'm not bothered about putting cories in, just would like the guppies there.

I accept your conversion to imperial gallons. I am more used to working with US gallons. Either way, my concern of overstocking remains.
