I have a new 29 gallon freshwater tank. I just started owning fish in January. I set it up two days ago and the filter is running. I know about new tank syndrome and am waiting because of that. But how long should I wait exactly. And I want to put some Angelfish and Tetras. The Angelfish that they sell at the store are about one inch to 1.5 inches big, long and tall. And I read that you should get one or more than 3 due to them pairing up on each other. And I know that getting one more fish wont prevent it, will it? And if tetras dont go with Angelfish then what other common fish does? Please hurry :nod:

Hmm its not really a case of waiting, are you cycling your tank?

If so there is section dedicated to that. Also Angels and tetras should be ok considering that the angels are quite small at the moment but they will probably outgrow that tank and may eat the tetras too

In this section, go to the top and then click on Beginner's Resources and then read everything on cycling a fish tank. Then come back and ask all your questions. Cycling a tank refers to building the community of "good" bacteria that will process the ammonia and nitrite that the fish produce. Once cycled THEN you can add fish.

There are some differences of opinion but I would only put one angel in a 29 gallon if the tank is a minimum of 18 inches tall. Angels grow very large and especially they are tall fish. Some people will recommend a minimum of a 40 gallon tank. A small angel will not bother tetras but as it grows know that neon tetras are its natural food. Some angels will begin hunting the neons. Sometimes if they are raised together and if the personality of the angel allows it can work but no one can guarantee it.

Angels do fine with some larger tetras and big bodied tetras and then bottom dwellers like corydoras catfish, bolivian rams, bristlenose catfish, appropriate sized loaches, there are quite a few. Google angelfish and tank mates and then double check back here.

Have fun and enjoy the learning process.

+1 to what Karin said! There are a couple links in my signature for the resource center and cycling checklist.

+1 fishless cycle.

+1 adult angels would be too large. From my experience, angels should either be kept in pairs or in groups of 6+.

What is the tank, 3 ft long? Look at something along the lines of..
* 15 tetras of one species
* 1m 2f Apistogramma or a pair of any other dwarf cichlid
* 8-10 Corys
