what should i decorate my new 55 gallon with??????

so i might be getting a 55 gallon what should i decorate it with?

Erm...plants and rocks and sand and stuff??
Any indication of how long/high the tank is and its strength of lighting and fish etc?
Realy depends on what you like; check of the members aquarium gallerys section on the forum to give you some ideas.

Look around the net, read some books and look at their pictures, listen to opinions. Above all....HAVE FUN. When you quit having fun....chances are its not gonna "look" fun.

IMO go as natural as you'd like. I recently have been "updateing" mine to look more natural, and I must say I like it! A very large piece of driftwood (real or otherwise) would make a nice centerpiece, along with LOADS of plants (real or otherwise). But, as the others have said, it would be easier to build around the fish you plan to keep (ie. sand or gravel, hiding places, etc)

Well if its african cichlids you're going to put in there....there are tough leaved plants that can withstand their needs to tear them up. Here is an example of a good african cichlid plant package;

Those plants would also look great in a sandy/rocky setting. If you're using african cichlids...also, I'd definately put rocks and sand in there as they have a strong instinct to hide in/claim caves and dig/excavate. But you probably already know that.

Sand substrate and lots and lots and lots of rocks!!

Cichlids like to dig, hence the sand and they are really territorial so you need to make sure you have at least one cave for every male in the tank, otherwise you will get them fighting

Fake plants might be ok, but not sure as I never thought of putting plants in my Malawi tank!
