im looking for plants to put in.. something that doesnt require THAT much lighting

Hiya.

Some plants recommended for low light setups are: Anubias species, Cryptocoryne species, java moss, java fern, and i think hornwort. if you go to tropica.com you can find out more about these plants. I am the least greenfingered person ever and for years had no luck with plants but i have some cryptocoryne wendtii now which are doing well. however they are root feeders so they like to have fertiliser in the form of tablets put under their roots. have fun :)

Java Fern and Java Moss dont need a lot of lighting :)

here are some pics...

Quite a while, I'd guess. Although mine have only been in my tank for about 10 months, but they're doing fine and I have a lot more fern plants than when I started.

i know ferns live for at least three years, since i was at a store today and talking to some guy about his three year old java fern in the store. java moss can live indefinitely, depending on your lighting and co2 conditions. it multiplies at an astounding rate, far faster than it dies. beware of high lighting and high co2 however, it can take over a tank quickly.

I was in the same boat as you awhile ago, and checked out this link...

In it, you will find a link to some "proven performers". Can't go wrong with those. You'll also find a link to aquariumplants.com, which has a section for low light plants. I ordered dozens of plants from them, and would recommend buying from them w/o a doubt! High quality plants, good size, excellent shipping. Some of my faves from them are hygrophilia polysperma (grows like a weed!), java fern, bronze crypto, red crypto. Also check out the Lotus plants... I bought a red lotus and a green lotus. The latter has grown HUGE, but the red one is staying compact and bushier. Sorry, to ramble on... I'm loving the plants as much as the fish!!
