so i want to start getting real plants for in my 30 gallon goldfish tank. it momentarily houses 10 golds and a pleco. I KNOW IT IS OVER STOCKED....... so please do not yell at me or try to lecture me about how i absolutly MUST get rid of my fish........ i already know this, and am working on rehoming most of them and possibly getting a second tank for some of them...... any way thats not what im asking about so please dont start with that topic. what i am wondering is what plants are best in a 30 gallon tank, that are able to hold up to the golds, and what can i use to keep them on the floor better?? i would also like to put some wood and larger rocks in with them not just the plants. the tank its self is ony about 18-20 inches high max so they would have to keep within that hight range..... does anyone have any recomendations for them??

PS- i apologise if i sounded rude when i asked for you to not tell me to get rid of my fish, but it is one thing that i always hear when i post about them..... i know you all bring it up in the best interest of the fish, but i have already reached the realization that even though i love my little guys there are too many in the tank. so i ask yet again please do not tell me to get rid of my fish just help me with what i am asking to the best of your ability.

Are the goldfish fancy or non-fancy goldfish? I tried to plant my goldfish tank once (has comet and common goldfish in it) with some tough hardy plants but the goldfish ate them, but i have heard of people having more success with fancy goldfish tanks. The wood and rocks will be fine though, just make sure you use wood or rocks with are safe for your tank  .

the group consits mostly of fancy goldfish with afew common golds aswell. i had plants in with mine at one point but they kept on pulling them out of the gravel (it wasnt very much gravel holding them down) so i moved what few plants i did have to my other tanks.

Goldfish will eat mostly any type of plant. I remember trying to find live plants before for my goldfish that they would not eat. However no plant is really fool proof, cause just when you think you have on that they won't eat they start eating it.

I like to put plants in their tank to give them something fun to play with. I do have one plant at the moment that that do no fool with to much though and it's an Anubis, i bought at my lfs it came on a piece of driftwood.

When I kept a coldwater tank in the seventies, I used Elodea Densa and they never touched it - very rarely had to buy any more.

thanks for the tips i'll have to keep them in mind for later in the week for when i get plants for my other tanks
