The plant section is pretty slow not many people on it I guess. I am collecting plants for my 55 gal tank. So far I have 2 java fern, 1 onion plant (I love it), and a few strands of wisteria. I am going to be keeping a breeding pair of Blue acaras, 5 cory cats, 1 rubber nose pleco, and a school of red eye tetras. I am thinking those guys might be the plant eaters I need to watch out for.

I am going to do some more plant shopping on Friday that's when they come in. I need hardy, low- moderate light, fast growers would be nice, tough leaves, and like water movement. I have sand substrate and a layer of laterite under it. I am going to be using Flourish Excel mostly.

IME Blue acaras aren't the worst for digging up plants so things like anubias, java moss, Amazon swords, hygrophilia etc should be ok

You can't really go wrong with Vallisneria. Once established, it's only the most determined cichlids that will uproot it, especially the "giant" forms. The long leaves provide plenty of shade, and because Vallisneria grows so fast, it does its bit to soak up nitrate (assuming you have bright light, of course).

Cheers, Neale

i'm always there ;)

anubias, vallisneria, microsorum sp, crinium sp echinodorous sp, are all tough and easy plants.

Are you refferig to the red eye tetras as plant eaters? If so then they will be perfectlly fine with plants.

yeah I thought the red eye tetras would nip at plants with their little teeth.
