This is what I currently use as and when required, coupled with a full set of salifert test kits to check levels when something looks not quite right.....

What is everyone else using to add to their systems????

hi

i use
sea schem marine trace elements
seachem calcium
seachem coral dip
seachem buffer 8.3
seachem magnesium
redsea iodine
reef complete
instant ocean salt
reef crystals
seachem salt
api test kit
calcium test salifert
magnesium salifert
soft trace salifert
copper salifert
phosphate api

no additives at all.
all the usual salifert test kits.

very boring i'm afraid.

Salifert tests for me along with KZ amino acid drops and that's it for me. At present I am able to maintain my water params by just using D-D H2Ocean salt mix.

I expect as my LPS and few SPS corals grow out more I'll readdress that accordingly. In my D-D 24 gal I dosed Seachem Magnesium to keep the mag up but didn't need to when I used the H2O salt.

Yep I don't dose anything either. Just have phosphate remover on the tank and have a whole bunch of test kits.

I keep mostly soft corals but once the mag and calc starts to drop a bit I will dose these.

Interesting question, one that required no thought really when I just had the nano - now that I have the five footer and don't want to be doing massive weekly water changes it is a whole new ball game.

So,

all the usual salifert test kits, although I don't use them often any more - my Euphyllias are my best guides, if they are not happy then action is required pronto

but I have now bought:

Tropic Marin mag and calcium supplement - after seeing the results of a local reefers tank, he doses each once a week in top-up water and a bio kit

each week: reef booster and stronti+
every fifteen days: bio digest, biotim, Iod+

Biodigest = apparently purifies aquarium water and digests organic wastes - i'm a bit sceptical with this one
Biotim = essential trace elements - supposed to complement RO water
Bioptim = supposedly for invertebrates and bacterial colonies
Reef booster = food supplement, omega 3, vitamins, amino acids
Iod+ = Iodine

Anyway, this reefers tank looked amazing and he swore by these supplements, so am going to give it a go.....

Oh also have rowaphos in the MCE 600 skimmer

At the moment I have I only use pro reef & Marine snow... should I be using anything else?

No, as long as you keep up with your regular weekly water changes you should be fine in the nano. However, you have been talking about getting some SPS so you will need to be testing for mag and calcium and may find you need to add some of each although if you are using a good salt like D & D h2 Ocean you may be ok with just bigger weekly water changes :good:

I am doing twice a week water changes to manage my Ca, just can't keep it high enough & thus testing it often ... I will be waiting a while before I get a SPS maybe when I can talk the wife into the next ank :hyper:

wow! thats alot of kit o.0

i thought that saltwater you make with reef crystal contains all the trace's that are relevant? are thse extra's basically just supplements?

it does if you are doing regular water changes and your stocking levels are not too high calcium dependent :good:

Guys, would you share with me your dosing routines and amounts please

Prestone Driveway Heat (calcium chloride)
Tops Baking Soda (Sodium bicarbonate)
Magnum De-Icer (Magnesium Chloride) - no longer sold :(
Tops Epsom Salts (Magnesium sulfate)
Phos-Free (Lanthanum Chloride) - Pool grade Phosphate remover

I don't bother using the high-priced additives sold for aquarium use. Why bother, when the cheap stuff works just the same and I can buy it in bulk :D. No trace elemets, no iodine, they're all too hard/impossible to test for. I just dump in two teaspoons of the Prestone, one teaspoon of the baking soda daily, and 1/4 cup of both magnesium additives bi-weekly. I test calc/alk weekly and adjust in one-shot doses based on a reef chemistry calculator. Test magnesium once a month and again change that in a one-shot dose. Waterchange quarterly 45gal on what I believe is around 70gal of water volume (after sump/rocks) to replace trace elements and remove the bad stuff that biology doesn't get to. Used to use Salifert kits only. In the future I'm only using salifert for magnesium, calcium and alkalinity will be done with whatever test kit I can find that's cheap. After testing my API calc/alk against my salifert kits I found that the API alk was +/-1dKH and calc was +/-20ppm. And since I'm really just in the mood for ballpark figures (cause calc/alk change so rapidly), I figured why bother spending all the $$ on the saliferts when the others could give me reasonable resolution for my purposes.
