Me and my boyfriend each had seprate tanks last year. His fish were given to him by a family member. well he lost interest and dumped his fish in my community tank. I took some to the pet store as they were way too big.
Now I am left with this guy. I have no clue what he is. I was told Dragon Goby, But i read up on them and they say they are peaceful and not agressive. Well I am now up to 10 disappeared fish! Assuming they got eaten as there were no bodies. And i caught him one morning with a tail sticking out of his mouth.
I am more than likely going to bring him in to, as i want a successfuk community tank and not have to worry about them getting eaten, and right now its impossible to build up my schools again as I would have to buy them small.

Cant remember the name for it but its a predatory fish and would have eat all the others. cheers

It's an ornate bichir Polypterus ornatipinnis.

thank you.

just looked them up, but it still says peacful. some fish he ate were small, but one was a qhost knife who was not small....

It's not an Ornate. It's a Polypterus Delhezi. Grow to around about 18" long and are predatory. Will eat anything it can catch and fit in it's mouth.

I've had a bichir and they are non aggressive. but, they will eat everything they can catch that will fit in its mouth.

My partner has owned Senagalus, Delhezi and an Endlicheri. The Senagalus ripped the eyes out of an 8" Pangasius. The Delhezi are aggressive, very. They grow to 18"(around abouts) can and will eat anything they can fit in their mouth.

how do you guys think he would do in a tank with pirahnas and bucktooth tetras? my friend just said if they would all do ok together, she would take him

Piranha's would eat him alive. Even the Bucktooth tetra's would have a go if he didn't get them first.

ok thanks. guess its off to the pet store tomorrow for him

Be sure to let the Pet Store know what he is(cause a lot of them don't and then they blame the customer when they are silly and put them with tetra's) so they know what to tell other people just in case. I've been to 1 pet shop ever that knows what a Polypterus is -_-

There are always exceptions but in general they are most definitely aggressive, i saw my old senagalus attack fully grown arowana and even a lung fish, very cool fish though.
