hi, i would like some advice please i brought some dalmation mollies from a popular pet store this weekend, and have noticed over the past few days that the 2 female mollies do nothing but stay hovering at the bottom of my tank they don,t seem fat bellied or anything but when i purchased them from the pet store the males and females were all in a tank together so is it a possability that my two mollies are pregnant?i have 2 females and 4 males i know the ratio is 1 male per 3-4 females but when i got them from the pet store i wern,t aware which sexes i got until i got them home.

i have also 5 guppies with black spots in there tummy are these pregnant?

i am quite new to all of this ive only ever kept angel fish and a betta but wanted a change so invested in another tank.any info would be great.

oh my god, know i know why she was hovering on the bottom of the tank she has had 14 fry, i put her in the fish breeder last night as she was really stressed out from the other males nipping her backside and when i put her in the breeder she was quite calm and settled in there, woke up this morning and fount 14 fry, my question is when do i put her back in the tank as she seems quite comfy were she is :good:

I am also no expert but with that ratio of males to females she is going to be hounded to death by the males I would honestly contact the fish shop explain your problem how they have give you the reverse ratio to what you need and ask them to take some males back and replace with females.

The mother will possibly eat the fry so you need to take her our of the net if you wish to save them.

But if you can sort the ratio asap then that is what you need to do. you need to swap 2 males for two females 2:4 or rehome 3 males ans have 1:2

thanks for that, i have given 2 of the male mollies to a friend that has only male tropical fish , so now i have only 2 female mollies and 2 male mollies would that be ok?

i also have a smaller tank when can i re-home the fry as the breeder trap is a little dirty and my zebra danios are trying to jump in there.

I would try up up your female to male ratio the male do hound them, how large is your tank can you fit in two more females or possibly but the males in the second tank and clean your breeder trap, I don't have mollies but I know how my male guppies can be, also if you don't want to be overrun by fry just plant up your tank and do survival of the fittest.

We had a hard decision to make we kept our first batch of platty fry and re homed them then we did survival of the fittest with the rest, now we only keep the fry we want separate I will keep the fry of my new guppy as she is stunning and I hope she mated with my dragon tail. But sadly my husband won't let me set up breeder nets he knows what I'm like they will become my replacement babies (as he say they are b****y fish, not children, I put up with you mothering the dog but I'm not having millions of tanks of fish).
