Hiya,

My fish has had this off and on for years, but I don't know what it is; ideally if possible I'd like to treat it to get rid of it once and for all.

I've attached photos so you can see it properly :)

This last one is a terrible photo (he wouldn't stay still)...HOWEVER you can see how it sticks out...

1 of my discus used to get these now and then. it only ever got 1 at a time that just starts off like a pimple then sticks out like something has speared the fish and pulled out some tissue..... not sure what it is/was but ive not seen it for a few months now on my fish. it only seemed to appear for a few days then it would clear up

is there anything that the fish could have caught itself on to cause an injury?

When does it go on or off like within a month or so & does it always come back on exact same place of the body?

Nothing that it could have been injured by, my fish gets it once in a blue moon, it comes and then disappears really quickly.

I seem to think it always comes back in a similar sort of place.

This morning the "pimple" wasn't raised, it was still red. I wonder if it fish acne hahaha.

Can you describe in more detail what you see. As it hard to see in the pics.

I'm so sorry I didn't see your reply.

It looked like a white spot surrounded by red (a bit like a spot). The fish gets it occasionally (like once a year maybe), roughly in the same area and it disappears quickly (it was there 3 days last time).

You might want to "google" furunculosis. It is a disease that members of the carp family are susceptible to. I hope that isn't what it is because it is nearly always fatal. I used to have goldfish and lost every one of them, one by one, to this dreadful disease. Most were several years old and had gotten quite big and then suddenly contracted it (don't know how). None of the meds I tried worked, including MediGold food.

In some cases, the "pimple" would disappear for long periods of time, only to reappear.

I'll google it; if it is that then he's had it years...

EDIT: I've googled it and it definately isn't Furunculosis.
