Over the last few weeks I've noticed that small parts of some of my plants have been growing what looks like black fluff. Does anyone know what this is and how to stop it from growing on the plants? Here's a picture:

Black hair algae!!!!

Almost impossible to get rid of once established, so I would remove it.

looks like the plant is rotting.

cut that bottom part of the plant off.

Hi Lym,

I've had the exact same problem recently. Heres a link to my thread which might help you. My Thread

Are you running lots of light? Are you dosing with ferts? Are you using CO2?

BTT

Thanks I'll go take a look at your topic. My lights are 36W, they're on about 9 hours per day. The only things I'm putting in the tank are Prime and Interpet Flora Boost, no CO2.

How many 36w tubes are you running? How big is the tank?

It sound like you have the same problem i had. Well lit, well fertilised tank with no CO2 = Algae

Did you read the thread yet? Do you think you have the same problem?

36W altogether on a 26 Gallon tank.

Yes I've read it, maybe but I'm not expert on this stuff.

Has anyone got any advice on how to stop this from happening?

Thanks!
