I did a little Google search and the only thing I could see is a cyanobacteria bloom of some kind? It's growing on the drift wood as seen below:

this was not here yesterday when I looked at the tank.

All of the driftwood was boiled and soaked so I am fairly sure that this isn't some weird hitch-hiker.

What is this and more importantly what should I do? I'm leaning obviously toward just taking out the drift wood and cleaning this muck off or at the very least trying to siphon it off with the water exchanger.

Help :D

New bit of wood?
Its normal. It wont hurt your fish.

It's new, yeah, for sure. Boiled and soaked though, I can't imagine anything was able to live through 20 minutes of boiling water?

What is it? LOL

Its a fungus that eats off the sap of the wood happens with mopani all the time. If you have snails, they usually eat it. Mine did that (years ago) and then was gone one morning. Not a big deal at all. Nothing to worry about. It will go away in a little while.
