Hi guys,
I need some advice here. A week ago my guppy died of fin rot. Since I had been treating the whole tank with TC Capsules by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals the water was tainted in a redish colour. Little by little I've been draining out the medication by doing small waterchanges, 10-15% every other day. This afternoon I noticed one of my plattys developed a single whitish spot smack on the middle of her tail fin. Could this be ick? Or do you think it might be something else? I can't say it looks like a grain of salt. It looks more like a small white blotch or stain. It's about 1 mm round, maybe less, and so far she shows no other symptoms.

The water is still tainted in a redish colour (from medication) so my water readings are not coming out right but I assume I have been keeping low levels of nitrate with the waterchanges. I really don't want to make things worse by adding a different medication (say super ick cure) if the remains of the TC Capsules are still there. During my last waterchange (a few minutes ago) I added two spoonful of salt.

Is there anything I should be doing? As I told you, right know I'm leaning towards being patient and watching the fish closely and if teratment might be needed I would like to wait until the redishness is gone. On the other hand I don't know if this white spot is a sign of a very serious disease and if should act at once.

I could really use your advice. Thanks for any help!

Do your best to get a water test result reading. This is very important because tetracycline (TC) can kill off beneficial bacteria in the tank. One thing you can do to help get the medicine out is add some fresh carbon to the filter, which will absorb any chemicals present.

If you choose to take a wait and see approach, keep a close eye on the tank. Also, doing some good gravel vacuming will hlep out to remove any ich present.

Fresh carbon, vaccuming, got it! First thing in the morning
Thanks a lot!
Please guys, feel free to contribute

Sounds bacterial the spot, Any red tinging to the patch or spot. right never dilute the med down till the course has finsihed, then sometimes you have to do another round if the fish is bad and there not much improvement.
