What Is This Fish?

please help!!!! what is this fish??he/she is about 6-7inches long, brown/grey colour, with a little round mouth, omniverous,and a real scaredy cat!! but not aggressive.

Looks like a black pacu to me. Plan for it growing much, much larger.

If it is a black pacu (which it looks like to me), as stated, prepare to care for a monster.

I think it's a giant gourami, actually. The body shape and scales don't look anything like a pacu. Still a big fish, though.

Actually, the feelers would be in the area that is cut off in the picture. Crappy luck the picture cut that part out, eh?

Comeone everyone has been way off the mark so far however the pacu is the closest, as for a gourami thats way out the fish in the pic has a adipose fin so is a characin family. How ever it's an African characin coming from the Congo area.

So it's a Distichodus affinis

course it is!, i should have recognised that, we had a distichodus in our store up until last week, (was concentrating too much on the colour and not on the shape)

what size tank do you have?
you need 500 gallons if thats a pacu!!
