Ok, this is a kinda difficult question, and although it concerns a goldfish, I am posting it here because it is moreso a question of ethics, you know?

When I got my 26 gallon tank, it came with a strange combination of about 5 goldfish, 2 tetras, and a couple danios. I rehomed the tetras and kept the danios (but they died) and all except one goldfish was rehomed. I kept the silver/orange one because someone told me that they wanted that one. The other goldfish went to a lady who was going to put them in a pond thingy, but to make a long story short, she killed most of them and they don't get very good care, so I don't want to give this last goldfish to her. The person who was going to get the one goldfish dosen't want him (I am calling the goldfish 'him' for now) anymore, so I am stuck with a common goldfish in a 26 gallon tank. The goldie had been in my dads 30 gallon for awhile with my dads tetras, but he dosen't want the goldie in there, so goldie is now in my 26 gallon with my two emerald cories.

What should I do with this goldfish? The 26 gallon tank is clearly unacceptable for a common goldfish, but if I take him to a LFS, he will either be sold as a feeder (though hes a good 3.5 inches or so), die from being in a filty tank, or be sold to be some 5-year old's pet in a goldfish bowl. A goldfish like him should be in a pond, but what are the odds of someone buying him and putting him a a properly stocked pond? Theres just no way. All the people who I have found that have ponds, have goldfish that are reproducing like mad so the pond is overstocked as is, so they don't want him.

What should I do with this fish? I don't have the money, space, or will to make a pond for him, nor do I have anywhere to put a big plastic bin for him. I don't have the money to get another filter, either. :X I don't think that my dad would let me set up a ginormous plastic bin tank, anyway, and our water isn't useable for fishtanks, so I have to go get water from a relatives house for the fishtanks, and that would be a pain for a big bin!

So, what do I do? Should I leave him in my 26 gallon with my cories and let him live out his stunted life? Should I give him to the petstore where he will probably be subjected to worse conditions, or what?

ETA: It was moved to the goldfish section. It was originally posted in the Tropical Fish section because to me, it is more of a question of ethics than a question of goldfish. Oh well. I'll be lucky to get one response now. cheers.

Personally i would hold onto the goldfish and just keep trying to find someone with a pond or large coldwater fish tank who can take him, the goldfish can live happily in the tank tank for quite a while to come yet since it is only a small goldfish right now, common goldfish grow about 1inch every 3-4months and you should aim to have the goldfish rehomed by the time it is 6inches or so long (but that also depends on the exact measurements of the tank- how long, wide and tall is the tank?) so you may have almost the entire year to find a good home for him  .
Its a shame you live in the USA otherwise i would totally take him off your hands.
