WEll, mine happened today....
We had been bowling and to burger king after. WE were in burger king and I was talking about my tank. Anyway, we were talking about what I wanted in my small tank, which is a betta, and I said that before I took a water sample to the lfs, I should do a water change otherwise the nitrates would be high (it has just cycled). He asked me why, I explained the nitrite cycle to him. Then, he asked the most stupid thing ever-
Why do you need to do water changes?

So I explained about it getting rid of the nitrate etc. He didn't get it, told me 'whats the point of having fish if you need to do water changes all the time?' and 'nan never used to do water changes' (????)..... He still doesn't get it.....
TBH, I'd be far better off talking to the wall.....

I explained the nitrification cycle to a friend of mine last night.. he was so lost, he just goes 'The point is..?' *Sigh.*

Stupidest thing I've ever heard, well.. there's two, both of them from the new employees at my LFS. One got fired. The other eventually learned and is now a much better employee.

The one that got fired... She was about to catch a 3 inch blue tang for a guy who wanted to do a 2.5 gallon nano-saltwater. I pointed out everything wrong with that idea to the guy ["Hey, uh.. did you know that your fish there will grow to the length of your tank when it's an adult? Those things get huge!"] and he couldn't believe the girl was going to let him do that to an $80 fish. ..I mentioned it to another employee, hoping they'd reeducate her. They fired her instead.

The other one, well.. when I first started going there, they kept bettas in their betta display tanks, and some in the other tanks with relatively peaceful fish. ...I saw one betta in a tank with some platies, which was great. Then I looked closed. His fins looked like they'd been chopped off! I checked the label for the tank, and it listed blue lobsters.. they were hiding under a rock but I suspect they attacked the betta quite often. I pointed it out and the employee was like 'He'll be fine, his fins will grow back.. bettas and lobsters are a great pair!' Erm.. no. Not even close. I told him that they should never be kept together, just like bettas and barbs. They had an empty spot in the display tanks, so I asked him to move the betta in there. Which he did. So that wasn't too bad.

Employee to customer while netting red devils :

E : So... what kind of fish you have.
C : I have africans and new worlds (cichlids)
E : oooooh so do I what size tank you have?
C : I have lots of tanks.
E : Not just one big one?
C : Yeah africans and new worlds have different water params.
E : Oh....I keep my africans and new worlds in the same tank.

That really suprised me as the employee has always give good advice.
