that's an oscar. they grow to be over 12" long, whether you like it or not. they are quite aggressive and an adult will claim as much territory as possible in a tank (killing off most other tankmates in the process). oscars will often reach their full adult size in under two years.
ONE adult oscar needs a MINIMUM 75g tank.
this is why we always, always, always research first and buy second!
what else have you got in that 145 gallon? oscars are predators and grouchy towards other fish.
oscars are great pets and can be really beautiful. they have tons of personality and love people (or more accurately, anybody that they think will feed them). they are very clever fish and are often compared to dogs in terms of their intelligence and interest in their surroundings.
but it can be very difficult to find them good tankmates.
i got nothing in the tank right now, it just finished a fishless cycle. in the tank he was in at the shop though is was in there with little snake fish, dragon gobys i think?
he is a ver tame fish though, he lets me pick him up and i can touch him and he doesn't even move away or panic
I noticed that you don't have much information about yourself in your profile. It would help us get to know you better if you tell us a bit about your fishkeeping experience. I say that because this is not a fish for someone who is just starting out, and with such a big tank as you have, I doubt you are new to the hobby.
I'll be looking forward to seeing your posts in the future.
well i have only ever owned moorish idols and a butterflyfish before but now i have 4 siamese fighter fish and this oscar. i have 4 30g nano reefs w/ no fish, 1 310g w/ moorish idols, 2 fishless cycling 90g, 4 5gs with my bettas, 1 145g with the oscar, 1 70g w/ brown butterflyfish and last but not least, 1 empty 65g i am giving to my neice for christmas.
If ment in fun/jest, its wiser to use emoticons as well or somthing similar to show this, otherswise you get on that mods BAD side and BAD things happen
