What Is Legal And Whats Not?

You got the wrong person. I never said anything about Guppies being Illegal. Not me sorry wrong person.I just found out on Google, it is illegal in Maine to own Koi. Ow my God what are we coming to.

If the 'ow my god' was because the illegal koi part I can let you know, there illegal because (as with most other illegal fish) when released into the wild they can cause several problems. Carp are bottom feeders and can easly turn crystal clear water into a muddy swamp with all the rooting around they do.

Very true. The reason fish (or any animal for that matter ) are illegal is beause of the potential effects they can have on the eco-system if released into the wild. Snakehead fish are the perfect example. Some states have had to poison entire lakes, irradicating the entire fish population to get rid of them. They then go back and restock he lakes with native fish. They don't have a natural predator that I'm aware of and can literally wipe out al the fish in a body of water. They can then move short distances over land to another body of water to find more food. Even plants can be an issue as they can also choke out the natural plant life and take over.

Very well said. A local fishtore in my area has a snakehead (was grandfathered in before the law was passed), it is such a concern/threat to the enviroment if they were to sell/release it to anyone or anywhere it is a minimum 250,000 dollar fine and guaranteed jail time.
It just really sucks when a few irresponsible/ignorant people ruin everyones (at least in the US) chance of owning a really awesome fish.
