I have a 10 gal. planted tank.set up for about a week now.1.8 watts per ga.3200k power compact 8.5 hours a day,no Co2.Using florish excel and nothing else.No bioload as of yet.In the last 3 or 4 days the tank as begun to develope a fuzzy, cobb web looking stuff growing off the plants mostly, alittle off the subatrate to.I know with out a pic its hard to say exactly what it is but the best way to describe it is like I did before.Looks just like cobb webs, white, thin filaments with allittle bit of a dustty apperance.Any help would be great.

When you introduce plants into an aquarium who knows what kind of other things are lurking on them. That is probably where the white stuff came from. I have actually never heard of it, but I can tell you with the fertilizer try cutting dosage in half. Also, what is your Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite levels? If they are high then that could cause an additional growth of unwanted "things." If they are growing on your plants then there is a good chance this is just a weird form of algae and you should treat it just like a regular algae. There are a million forums for a million different ways to treat algae, try those out. BUT FIRST: Make sure you add some biological filtration stuff that will help, even without fish, I use "Stress Zyme." Your tank may just need to cycle and without the bio-filtration it will take forever and the bio-filtration also kills some of the weird strains of algaes.

If that doesn't work try: Make sure your tank is not in sunlight, try separating your lighting time by two hours 5x2x5... Do you have a filter or something cleaning the water and moving the watter. If not then BANG thats your problem. If so, then hey I tried :(

I hope I could help.
