 In about 6 months I'll be moving, what's the best way to transport fish? we'll be on the road about 7 days. I don't really have anyone to give them to, I am trying to plan on bringing as much of hte tank water with us as possible. Any suggestions??

7 days? That's very long commute!

How are you going to be travelling during these days?

Just a thought - how about adding a heater and a mature sponge filter in the container? You can power them using car's DC --> AC adaptor.

I thought about doing this during my 6 hours travel, but it is probably not necessary for trips of this length...

what would be a safe container to use? i had thought about a big rubbermaid container. i could stick the filter on the side of that... ;)

If you can, I guess it would work. As for the heater - do you have access to either a piece of rectangular glass or a tile? You can stick your heater on it, then let it rest on the bottom. This way, the heater won't melt your plastic container...

By the way, this is how some people raise their fishes in a rubbermaid container. I'm not sure if anyone tried to use this setup to move though... ;)

there's a Lowes up the road i could get some tile from there!! that's a great idea, i hadn't thought about that. should i use any stress coat meds or anything like that?

Stress coat probably doesn't help since it won't touch ammonia. I think AmQuel+ converts toxic ammonia into non-toxic form, but if your filter is working properly, you shouldn't need any of these chemicals... I guess you can carry them in case you see ammonia spike... (I guess this means you are going to measure water parameter daily during travel???)

i didn't think of ammonia either, I had planned on checking water quality daily though. :kana: this is going tobe fun. thank you for all your suggestions :kana:
