O.k so my moms boyfriend id already talking about marriage and he really wants a big reception and wedding. My family is Hispanic and when were gonna party were gonna party. So the reception is probably gonna be done in a blan hall just because our family is huge and its waqs to out of our leage to be doing it in a fancy already decorated hall. Well my mom and i were talking and it looks like im gonna be put in charge of alot of the really creative designing and decorations in there. (Im a aspiring designer/model) So even though i have heard of some really horrible things done to bettas at receptions like teens pouring wax into the water and stuff i might want to base my ideas around fish. I will say the fish safety is definitly gonna be top priority. So i came up with the idea of a fish in a form of big container and i hot glue the top with something imposible to get off like a tough piece of plastic and the only way to get it back off is to melt the glue again with a hot metal. I would certainly be using top percausion doing this. I was also thinking of something with fantail goldfish. Anyone ever done anything really creative like this or have any suggestions on how to do this more effictively. Oh and really creative ideas for the decorations would be great. :)

I wouldn't really fancy the idea of housing fish in 1 place for 1 day for the sake of novelty. Sorry.

I would only have like 6 bettas which i could keep and if i use the goldfish they could be released in my pond. So they would be kept.

Oh i also was thinking of the bettas being all female so i could actaully start my first female community.

Yeah, but the logistics of moving fish into one place for one day seems both very difficult, and probably stressful for both you and the fish. This is only my 2 cents mind, other people might take a different attitude. Enjoy the wedding :)

It just seems like you really dont wanna contribute anything to this post.

I'm offering my opinion thats all. I just think logistically it might be a bit of a nightmare. I'm sorry if I'm not giving you the answers you want to hear, but please don't be short with me because of it.

somebody once posted a link on here about a guy who combined ice sculptures and goldfish displays. i'd search for something like that and skip out on the bettas. bettas are so small that they'd only work well as table centerpieces and if you're going to have as many guests as it sounds, you'd need a small ton of bettas. plus, if anything was to happen to one when you weren't looking or when removing the tops of the jars, you'd feel awful. (and hot glue peels off of glass pretty easily).

Thanks for the input. It is true. I might have to just stick with the goldfish. Also i could just do about just 2 bettas or goldfish at the main table were the wedding cake is gonna be. Instead of putting a fish at every table i could do two big fantail goldfish. And just give them a more elaborate bowl. And at the other tables do a little setup with water and something fancy but with no fish in them and find somehow to make it seem like its a chain off the two big containers. Like i was thinking at first before i started to elaborate so much. It would also be way easier to transport the fish will would be less stressful for both of us.

Being on a table during a wedding cant be half as stressful As being in a box for days while being shipped somewhere. It just seems like you really dont wanna contribute anything to this post. Does anyone else have any ideas?

they were only trying to help!

to do what you want the fish would have to be moved in and out of different containers and transported back and forth.

and thats before you kept them safe.

atleast when there in a box they stay in the same water and its dark.

I don't think you are likely to find anyone on an aquarist's forum that would condone live fish being used as you suggest.
Why not have the water bowls but have submersed flowers & floating candles -you can get fish shaped candles.
I have walked out of events when fish have been abused in this way - & I was a guest speaker at one....

Aren't there other ways you could introduce a fishy motif, without actually using live fish? Floating fishy candles have been suggested and would look good. I seem to remember in primary school making big fish with long lacy fins out of multicoloured silk tissue paper- they could be done to a much bigger size and so look more eyecatching than the real thing. The sort of floating fish on sticks they have in Japan could look good if done by somebody artistic. I am sure with your training you could come up with something really eyecatching. Ice sculptures have been mentioned. Flower sculptures if you are gifted that way.

Reason I am suggesting this, is I have heard some horror stories of guests getting out of control at weddings. Even if all they do is walk up and tap the glass, that could be pretty stressful if it kept happening over the hours. If they get slightly merry, isn't there a risk of accidents? The last thing you want is to have to spend your Mum's big day policing her guests.

Personally I could not say I think it is a good idea.... (bettas, goldfish, or any other kind of fish)

And here are some reasons:
the movement all around the fish for a long period of time.
making sure the fish were taken there and removed after SAFELY would be difficult and time consuming.
the noise from so many people
the vibrations from people bumping into tables, charis dragged on ground, etc.
the possibility of people doing something to the fish
do the fish have an environment to be moved to after which has been properly cycled and set up?

you could probablky get away with a bowl of brine shrimp though...

What about ghost shrimp or something less prone to stress ?? maybe the red plants in sand in some sort of container with cherry shrimps which are red ?? make the theme sort of red/love hearts ?? you can get those tiny grains of red wax which floats on the surface (not sure if this will be harmful for shrimp so maybe investigate that) with red sand ?

if its going to be for a reception then I would say 100% no becuase receptions mean loud music, lots of movement and vibrations from the speakers and the floor so a very stressfull place. Also where there is alot of people then the heat rises.

I don't think any live creature should be used as a decoration whatever is going to happen to them afterwards. It will definitely be stressful for them. That's just my opinion and you did ask! :)
